Pendle Blues

We had bred, shown and sold commercial beef cattle for some years before making a decision to establish a Pedigree Herd and decided on the British Belgian Blue Breed in 1996.

Amongst our first purchases was Kenray Juan Hill bought in September 1996 and followed by Sedworth Lucy in the 1997 Carlisle sale. From these two foundation heifers were bred Pendle Rose, out of Lucy and by Cristal De Somme, who went on to take 4 Championships and 2 Reserve Championships . The most notable of these successors being the Reserve Breed Champion at the Royal Lancashire show and coming 2nd in the Interbreed heifer class when competing against 12 other top quality breeds. For a maiden heifer this was a very impressive start to her career and an appetite for quality breeding stock and success in the shown ring was born.

In September 2000 at the Carlisle sale we purchased the top priced female, Stowbeck Lulu with her bull calf, Stowbeck Storm at foot. This calf went on to become our very successful show and stock bull. At the time of purchase Lulu was also in calf to Philipper De Remichampagne which resulted in a heifer calf Pendle Trixy, who was shown very successfully and went on to produce Pendle Australia.

Stowbeck Storm sired Pendle Valley who was also a prolific show winner. Our daughter Isabella, at the tender age of 6 years, commenced her show career with Valley having done much of his handling and training herself. Together they went on to gain many first prizes and this only made Isabella keener to train and handle many of her own Blues and she is now a ‘showman’ to be reckoned with when she enters the show ring. Pendle Valley was sold in 2005 for 4,500gns.

Our son Thomas, at the age of five, commenced his show career with an appearance at the Royal Lancashire Show and took the Young Handlers Class with Pendle Wave, the progeny of our home bred cow Pendle Trixy and sired by Danseur D’embise. A dream start to his show ring career encouraged Thomas to take Pendle Wave to the Borders Calf Show in 2005 where he was awarded the Reserve Young Handler title.

The friendly rivalry between brother and sister can only bode well for the future of the herd.

Stowbeck Storm was sold in 2004 for 7,000gns and at the same Carlisle sale Blue Stone Union Jack was purchased as the current stock bull.

Blue Stone Union Jack has proved a very prolific bull and has, combined with our home bred cows, gone on to produce notable progeny such as, Pendle Australia, sold as a calf, who went on to be a Royal Show Class winner and later selling for 6,000gns, Pendle Aaron sold for 5,000gns, Pendle Allblack sold for 4,500gns, and Pendle Aztec who sold for 3,000gns.

Heifers Pendle Boo La La and Pendle All Spice sold for 3,900gns and 2,800gns respectively. Two further Blue Stone Union Jack heifers, Pendle Amarillo and Pendle Alice Springer are enjoying very successful show careers with Isabella and Thomas.

The Pendle herd continues to go from strength to strength and now numbers some 50 Pedigree cattle. Building on a reputation of producing quality breeding and showing cattle along with a quiet nature we are pleased to offer young bulls, heifers, embryos and Blue Stone Union Jack semen for sale.
